Mansidão epilogue SAILBOATO
For the epilogue of Act 2, we bring together André López's voice with the impeccable and virtuosic cello of
Marcio Malard to recreate one of the four songs from Heitor Villa-Lobos' work "A Floresta do Amazonas" (The Forest of the Amazon).
This piece by Villa-Lobos is the only one that, shamefully, is still not in the public domain.
The copyright belongs to Hollywood studios since its creation for the 1959 film "Green Mansions", which was a box office and critical failure. The director cut and altered this great symphony, causing it to lose its original genius.
The composer passed away the same year.
The chosen aria is one of the most beautiful and rarely recorded.
It is for soprano voice: "Veleiro" (Sailboat).
"Veleiro" evokes the emotion of loss, of inevitable things, with the simple poetry by Dora Vasconcelos, with the grandiose sea as the backdrop, while we all are the small sailboat at its mercy.
In the final verses, an Umbanda curimba was added as a tribute to Yemanjá, the great mother and holder of the power of the waters, especially the sea.
The beloved and revered mother by the Brazilian people.
